Using this website
This website is run by Millennium Square. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

- left/right scroll is introduced for smaller screen sizes and mobiles when text has been zoomed to 200%

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Leeds City Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance Status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
- Headings are not always in sequential order
Some pages do not have the H1 page title as the first heading on the page and others skip heading sizes. This means the structure of the page content is not always clear for readers and fails 2.4.6 Headings and Labels. - Heading tags that are empty and visually hidden
Leeds Armed Forces Day webpage has a hidden empty link next to contact us in the footer. Millennium Square Leeds has an empty heading tag just below the social media icons in the footer. This fails 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value. - Non-decorative images missing alternative text
Images being used as links are missing the relevant alternative text or label, meaning that these could be missed or ignored by assistive technology. Examples of this are the social media icons for Light Night, The Big Screen and Armed Forces Day. This fails 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context). - Left/right scroll is introduced for smaller screen sizes and mobiles when text has been zoomed to 200%
When the text has been zoomed to 200%, for smaller screens and mobiles, the content does not all reflow and wrap as it should, meaning that left/right scroll is introduced and some text is cropped off. This fails 1.4.4 Resize Text and 1.4.10 Reflow. - Search option concealed for mobile users when text has been zoomed to 200%
On mobile devices, when text has been zoomed to 200%, the header only has the logo and hamburger menu in it. The search functionality is no longer visible to use. This fails 2.4.5 Multiple Ways. - Google map and YouTube frames do not have an accessible title
On the Getting here page, the Google Map frame does not contain a title. This is also missing from the YouTube frame on Light Night Leeds. This fails 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value. - Some elements are using ARIA attributes that are not allowed for that element’s role
On the What’s on page, the date input field is using ARIA attributes that do not match the roles of that element. On Light Night Leeds, the YouTube video embed uses an aria attribute that is not allowed for that role. This fails 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We're working with our developers to fix issues 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.
We are fixing issue 1 retrospectively and aim to have this issue resolved in 2027.
